The Weekly Review - Issue 12

The Weekly Review

Hello. I hope you are all keeping well and safe. What a week! Here are three main focuses to my week. Thank you for your continued support. I have noticed an increase in viewership that is wonderful to see. I appreciate it a lot.

In this issue - Twos deal, Capacities app and going Apple Watch free.
In this issue - Twos deal, Capacities app and going Apple Watch free.

Become an Original Twoser

Parker on Twos’ YouTube channel announced users who sign up for the Twos app will get all future premium features for free. However, this is a limited offer, which will end on 2nd September 2024. You will become an OT (Original Twoser…and you will get an OT badge next to your name)! The Twos app, which I have mentioned many, many times before, is a free app, and it will be forever.

Twos offers three optional subscriptions to support the app’s development. I have supported Twos through the subscription model and the purchase of a Twos hoodie. I feel it is important to support smaller software companies who create great software because they need money to operate and improve the app. In doing so, we all benefit from the advancements they make along the way.

Watch the announcement video here.

Even if you are not ready to switch your note-taking app, having the Twos app, for free, that offers AI integrations, templates, custom colours, tags, blogging features and a remarkable community is a definitely huge plus. I would sign up before the deadline and take advantage of the deal. Twos is a great companion to any other app you use. You will find it difficult to find another app that quickly captures content or ideas like the Twos app.

Testing out Capacities

My daily note template in Capacities.io

This week, I took it upon myself to try out an app I have been eyeing up for a few months. Capacities.io is an app in the PKM space. Personal Knowledge Management is an area I’m not really concerned about as I resort to the old-school methods of basic folder structures, Twos and the simple pen/paper combo.

What caught my attention recently is their statement of working towards a local-first future and a mobile app. I follow a few people online who discuss Capacities, citing their love of the app and connecting ideas, knowledge, and captures. The idea of organising my information and leaning towards attachments and media within an app sounded like a promising endeavour.

I have signed up for a month of the Pro version to see what Capacities is all about. The focus will be solely around education and my current interest in special educational needs. I want to develop my understanding of dyslexia and ADHD for work, as well as to build my skillset for the future.

Already, I have clipped articles, resources, and notes for dyslexia within Capacities and made the important connections between them all. I like how the daily note collects all the snippets on the page, but I still have the option to view each piece as an object in the side panel.

Capacities is object-based, meaning you capture all things in your life as objects (people, notes, images, companies, books, etc) and make the connections where relevant. I have been impressed with my experience so far. The app is fast, onboarding videos are easy to follow, and my experience of other apps has helped me work out what to do relatively quickly. Even better, Capacities has a web clipper for Apple Safari!

Ditching my Apple Watch for the rest of August

Last June, I set out on a ‘dumb watch’ challenge to question whether I was too dependent on my Apple Watch alongside all the smart technology it provided me. The experiment went surprisingly well. The experience lasted eleven days while I was on holiday on the east coast of Yorkshire (England).

I’ve decided to take part in the challenge again. This time I will be starting the challenge from today, 12th August, and returning to my Apple Watch on 2nd September. That’s 22 days of independence! I feel it is more fitting with me being on holiday and my wish to remove myself from the technology I use each day.

Of course, the experience will be reported in a blog post. I will be using the Casio MQ-24–7BLL watch, which is a basic black resin analog watch. I believe I paid £8.99 at the time.

Media

I went to the cinema to watch the Deadpool and Wolverine movie with a friend this week. Oh, how I had so much fun with this little gem. Recently, I’ve found anything made by Marvel to be boring, so my expectations for this movie were low. I was wrong. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. I won’t throw in any spoilers, but the movie has plenty of cameos and surprises to keep viewers of the original X-men movies entertained. I would give this movie 7 out of 10.

See you next week for another weekly review. As always, thank you for taking the time to read my post.
