The Weekly Review - Issue 13

This has been the week of nothing, as in, I haven’t done much. It’s a good thing because I needed to recharge my batteries.

Watch update

Seven days without a smartwatch and I have to say it has been easy. There’s only two scenarios I have noticed to be an issue (first-world problems).

First, I use my Apple Watch as a timer when cooking, so I reverted to my phone instead. The other is changing songs in Apple Music when I am driving. I start the playlist before I head off to my destination now. These are not real issues, but noticeable differences in how I use my watch during the week.

I am liking the lightness of my Casio watch. Occasionally, I forget I am wearing the watch.

Capacities just got better

A week into using Capacities.io and it has got better. In their latest blog post, Capacities announced performance updates and better offline support.

I’ve tried the app, both iPhone and Mac, offline to see what I could access. Everything I expected was available, which is remarkable. Pages were able to be read, created and edited.

The synchronisation of Capacities’ data works well. I am not experiencing lag or unexpected syncing issues, so I am pleased with how the app performs.

I’m still in the early stages of using Capacities, so I have kept my configuration as simple as possible. Learning how to use the search functionality is my next focus.

Incoming borefest from Apple

You would think, with the word ‘Mac’ in my blog, I would be an Apple fanboy. To be honest, I was for many years. Unfortunately, something has happened in recent years to Apple that has me bored with what they ship out. That sparkle has long gone.

The impending announcement of the iPhone 16 is due next month. I could not be less uninspired or interested in watching the Apple Event. Looking at reports, the iPhone will have a dedicated camera button like my Sony Xperia XA2 did in 2018. Wow. Go innovation! Moreover, who is actually interested in upgrading their phone to get Apple Intelligence?

Apple will need to try better if they want the iPhone to succeed. However, their latest Q3 report shows they can rely on services to keep the company profitable. I plan to keep my iPhone 15 until I am forced to replace it once the software updates stop.

Issue 14 might come out next week. I’m not entirely sure as I will be abroad, and I’m not sure if there is internet, or I want to use my phone at all. I plan to relax in the sun, swim in the sea, and chill with a book.

If I don’t publish next week, I’m sure the fourteen issue will have a few photos from the holiday in it when I publish it from home. Don’t worry. I won’t bore you with the family photos. 😁
