Quitting YouTube challenge - FAILED!
challenge
I haven't posted since day three of the challenge. There is a reason for it - I failed the challenge on day four and continued to fail each day after. I guess I was ashamed to announce it until today.
The reason why I am mentioning it now was a chance watch (ironically) on YouTube about a book Dopamine Nation by Anna Lembke. It made me realise YouTube, itself, was not the only issue. I have slowly returned to multiple social media accounts in the past six months - Reddit, Mastodon, Facebook and X. Each one fuelling more annoyance at the world and understanding that these sites are not healthy for me. Not in a mental health way, but in a way that distracts me from the interests and passions I had formed when I was away from them.
In the book, Lembke, explains 28 days is enough time to change your behaviour and break the current cycle. It isn't a flawless science. However, I am planning on taking a 28-day break from all social media to refocus my intentions. Recently, I have formed a healthy routine of meditation, breathing exercises, exercise and reading. I want to double my efforts and focus on these areas with greater.
Of course, the challenge deserves its own post.
As always, thank you for reading my blog.
