Minimalist May - Day 2
challengeYesterday wasn’t tricky as I previously imagined. I managed to get through it with ease. Like any new habit, the first few days can go relatively well.
Diet
What I have noticed is my yearning for snacks immediately after leaving work. I'm not sure if this is an emotional response or the fact I have seven hours between two meals. Snacking is a real thorn in my side that I want to cut out.
By 10:45am, my stomach was rumbling. I forgot that cutting out the sugary and fatty snacks meant I did not eat between meals. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch and tea (evening meal).
Finance
I avoided the shops today and there were no online purchases made. I decided not to renew my Zoho Notebook subscription, which is now completely deleted. Workflowy is doing an impressive job and I have Twos app to quickly capture websites and other personal notes.
Caffeine
I had one cup of coffee at 8am when I got to work. Something I wanted to
achieve was not relying on caffeine first thing in the morning when I
got up at 6am. The urge was there. I ignored it. In a way, it made me a
little excited to get to work.
A colleague recommended drinking
warm water if I missed the act of having a hot drink. Just wow. It works
better than I imagined. Another recommendation is to add some fresh
lemon to the hot water. If this continues to work, who knows?
Exercise
The morning routine went as planned. I'm trying not to overdo it with the press-ups, as I have heard of injuries to the shoulders. I was unaware of rotator cuff tears until two male colleagues spoke about their struggle with it. Note taken — do not do too many press-ups. I am nowhere near the level to achieve three sets of 25 per day ([Mens Health]).
I went for a walk in the countryside in the afternoon after work. The quietness and lack of people around me was perfect for my mind.
Sleep
Last night, I was in bed and ready to settle by 10:18PM. I’m impressed I was disciplined enough to go to bed so early. My body must have known there was a change in my routine because I was wide awake at 5:45AM. Maybe tomorrow morning will be different.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update. My post is part of #WeblogPoMo2024.
